To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/25/2024. Individual Occupational Requirement for 0640 Series Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Minimum Qualifications In addition to meeting the IOR above, the following must be met: Specialized Experience at GS-7: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-6) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to:(1) Assisting with the repair, engineering, fitting and dispensing of orthotic appliances; (2) Interpreting prosthetics consults and performing patient screenings as submitted by clinicians; (3) Ensuring legal requirements governing eligibility and entitlement to prosthetic and orthotic devices are met. OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position. A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. The incumbent functions as an Orthotic Fitter in the Orthotics & Prosthetics Services section of Prosthetics Service, at the Kansas City VA Medical Center. The KCVA O&P Lab is designated as a Polytrauma Support Clinic Team site for VISN15 VA Heartland Network. The Orthotic Lab supports all clinics at the Kansas City VA Medical Center, as well as the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
