To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must meet one of the following: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal service. This experience must have equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Specialized experience includes coordinating, planning, developing, administering, managing, and providing advice related to the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) program; processing equal employment opportunity (EEO) complaints filed; developing and presenting training programs; developing and maintaining statistical data; serving as liaison and advocate for diversity groups and/or organizations; providing guidance and technical expertise to managers; and providing advisory services. NOTE: Your experience must be fully documented in your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Communications Conflict Management Decision Making Education and Training Technical Competence IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. There may be some lifting of boxes or pushing of carts for meetings or media presentations, but most of the time is spent walking or sitting at a desk, in meetings, or at a computer terminal. The work is performed in a variety of office settings. The work areas are adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The Equal Employment Specialist position is located within the Alexandria VA Health Care System (AVAHCS). The primary purpose of this position is to perform work that involves planning, developing, administering, evaluating, and advising leadership on the facilitys Affirmative Employment and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) program. The position serves as the EEO manager with full responsibility for establishing, organizing, and directing all of the facility EEO programs.
