Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Knowledge of and skill in operating one or more gasoline, diesel or electric powered wheeled vehicles (over 32,000 pounds) with heavy loads and limited maneuverability. Vehicles having dual braking systems and special purpose equipment. Knowledge of the height, weight, width and length of the vehicles in order to judge overhead and side clearance, the turning radius, braking distance and safe distance to be maintained from other vehicles. Skill in applying this knowledge to maneuver vehicle in heavy traffic and in close quarters such as around parked aircraft or backing up to ramps, docks or similar locations and in responding to hand signals from spotters. Knowledge of federal, state and local safety and traffic rules and regulations for operating vehicles. Skill in defensive driving techniques. Skill in recognizing developing hazardous road and traffic conditions and the judgement to adjust driving methods to the practices of surrounding traffic and to select alternate routes to avoid potential problems. Skill in reading and understanding road maps and other locator documents and in determining the shortest and safest route for both the short and long runs, considering the height and weight of the vehicle relative to overpass clearances and legal restrictions, load limits of bridges and roads, and weigh points, in both familiar and unfamiliar geographic areas. Knowledge of the operator’s manual for assigned vehicles. Knowledge to recognize developing maintenance problems when conducting operator inspections and reporting problems to the supervisor. Knowledge of and skill in loading and arranging cargo properly onto the vehicle using appropriate tie-downs such as chains, binders or straps for safe transit on public roads at highway speeds or under similar driving circumstances in order to ensure that vehicle is not overloaded or unevenly loaded and to prevent jackknifing. Knowledge of and skill in the operation of electric, LPG or diesel powered forklifts.
About the position: This position will be assigned to the 72d Force Support Squadron Recycling Program. Operates one or more types of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles typically having a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 32,000 pounds. Drives over public roads (or equivalent) in a full range of traffic conditions and at highway speeds to transport cargo. Also operates forklifts to facilitate cargo loading/unloading. Physical effort is moderate to heavy.
