Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, 1010 Series. INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: EDUCATION: Applicant must have successfully completed at least a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree in Major study — illustrative design, commercial art, fine arts, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, or other fields related to the position. This education has been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your unofficial transcripts. Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis. OR GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have or will have within 120-days at least three years of progressively responsible general experience, one year of experience which is equivalent to Federal experience at the next lower grade (GS-04), level, pay band (NH-01), or equivalent (pay schedule, pay band, etc.). Typically, this experience is in work that demonstrated the skills and creativity needed to use the tools or equipment associated with the work. Because talent and creative ability are vital to successful work performance, sample of work or other suitable evidence of technical competence may be required. Unpaid experience that is pertinent should be credited based upon its relevance to the work of the particular position to be filled. Examples of qualifying general experience include: design and construction of exhibits, posters, photographic displays, signs, or displays of art or technical equipment, preparation or mounting of museum specimens; wood carving, sculpturing, illustrating, interior or industrial design; or the use of tools and techniques related to carpentry, plastics, sheet metal, electrical or electronics work, machining, painting, molding, or in making machines, apparatus, and instruments. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of exhibitory techniques and methods sufficient to create accurate visual presentation and accepted principles of conservation and preservation techniques. Knowledge of various fabricating techniques such as CAD and CNC. Knowledge of and skill in application of electronic principles and theories. Skill and ability in using a range of shop machinery for working with fine carpentry, plastics, sheet metal fabrication, TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) & MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding, brazing, soldering, fiberglass work, corrosion control and spray painting to preserve museum exhibits. Skill in one-of-a-kind fabrication techniques in duplicating original artifacts that can be displayed in Diorama environments. Ability to collaborate with subject matter experts and designers to plan the fabrication of unique permanent exhibits. Ability to communicate effectively both orally, written and to read and interpret blueprints and exhibit specification drawings. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Exhibits Specialist producing a variety of exhibits for cultural, educational, informational, scientific or technical purposes. To work in a museum setting producing exhibits portraying and preserving the history and traditions of the United States Air and Space Forces.
