To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/22/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience – GS-07: Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade in the Federal service? This experience involves the observation of and assistance in the application of techniques relating to behavior, capacities, traits, interests, and activities. Experience may have been gained in connection with a program of research or direct services in psychology that gave a practical understanding of some of the principles, methods, and techniques of psychology needed to assist professional psychologists. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: to assist professional personnel in effective operation of a rehabilitation treatment program for alcohol or drug-dependent patients; to act as a liaison and intermediary between patients and professional personnel; to understand and cope with the physical and psychological needs of these patients; and to guide and assist patients in following a prescribed treatment program. This experience must also have demonstrated that the applicant possesses knowledges, skills and abilities which enable the applicant to understand the problems, actions, reactions and symptoms of alcohol or drug-dependent persons and is able to relate to, empathize with, communicate with, motivate, and influence changes in behavior patterns of alcohol or drug-dependent patients. There is no educational substitution in the occupation at the GS-7 grade level, however one (1) year of graduate level education may be substituted for experience at the GS-7 grade level only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires frequent walking. The employee sits comfortably when completing clinical documentations. Other activities include standing, pushing of light items such as vital signs machine, and minimal lifting less than 20 pounds. The work may require special physical demands during therapeutic hold and or therapeutic containment when responding to disruptive behaviors. This position is organizationally aligned under Nursing Service – at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, Chicago, IL (537) – a complexity level lb facility. The primary purpose of this position is to perform technician and supportive related work that contributes to the health and wellbeing of the Veteran population served, while contributing to improving the efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity of the inpatient psychiatry unit.
