To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). Minimum Requirements: General Schedule Qualification Standard Link: Health Aid and Technician Series 0640 (opm.gov) Individual Occupational Requirements: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. For the GS-03 level: Your resume must demonstrate at least Six (6) months of General Experience; that provided a familiarity with the subject matter of the position to be filled. OR Education in place of experience: Successful completion of 1 year of education above high school that included study in medical, health, or related fields. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school. Or, Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-03 grade level. For the GS-04 level: Your resume must demonstrate at least 6 months of general experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter of the position to be filled AND 6 months of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-3 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience in a technical or support nature in the field of health and medicine such as, recording height/weight; applying sterile dressings; preparing patients for evaluation and treatment; restocking medical supplies; ensuring that medical equipment is in proper operating condition. OR Education in place of experience: Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in subjects related to the position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school. Or, combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-04 grade level. For the GS-05 level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience assisting with methods, techniques and protocols in the Emergency Medical Services. Includes taking vitals, patient movement, collecting data on scene to provide detailed reports. Communicating with team members and medical personnel to provide and receive important information about the patient’s condition. OR Education in place of experience: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school. Or, combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-05 grade level. For the GS-06 level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Professional experience in methods, techniques and protocols of Emergency Medical Services that includes, independently conducting a complete assessment, using knowledge of topographic anatomy, major body systems, emergency medicine techniques, ability to sufficiently understand the legal considerations of emergency care. OR Education in place of experience: Completion of 6 months (9 semester hours) of Graduate Education that is directly related to the work of the position. **For Grades GS-05 and GS-06, there is a Selective Placement Factor Requirement: In addition to the minimum requirements, the following certification is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Applicants who do not meet this selective placement factor are ineligible for further consideration at the GS-05 and GS-06. You must possess and provide proof of a Emergency Medical Technician certification from a US State or the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Copy of your certification must be submitted with your application. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
This position serves as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at the Cheyenne River Service Unit. The purpose of the position is to perform basic technical health care extender functions in response to various emergencies. The incumbent will also be responsible for performing Nursing Assistant and driver duties. Position is subject to “Stand By” duty and will be required to rotate to all shifts. The incumbent of this position reports to the Supervisory Health Technician (Paramedic).
