Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience which inculdes:1) directing the activity of a fire crew 2) responding to emergency incidents such as hazardous material incidents and technical rescue operations; 3) driving and positioning apparatus such as aerial trucks, structural pumpers, water tenders, wild land apparatus, crash rescue vehicles, and ambulances in response to emergency incidents; 4) performing life support functions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess: Certifications Required: 1) Fire Officer II 2) Fire Instructor I, 3) Fire Inspector I, 4) HAZMAT Incident Commander, 5) Emergency Medical Technician (BASIC), 6) Airport Firefighter, 7) Driver Operator – Pumper, 8) Driver Operator – Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF). Maximum Entry Age (MEA)The MEA for Firefighters is 37. Applicants not appointed by the last day of the month in which that individual reaches their 37th birthday shall not be appointed or assigned to these positions.
