Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. To qualify, applicants must meet the Basic Requirements and the minimum qualifications to qualify for each grade they wish to be considered for. Basic Requirement: A) Degree in economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting or calculus. OR B) A combination of education and experience – courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement above, applicants must also meet the minimum qualifications to be considered: CG-14, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the CG-13 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience serving as an economist specialist responsible for conducting research on, and analysis of, complex economic, banking and consumer financial issues. CG-15, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the CG-14 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience serving as a key economic advisor, developing policy recommendations, and conducting, publishing and presenting economic research and analysis at the highest level on complex economic issues. Applicants must have met the qualification requirements (including selective placement factors – if any) for this position within 30 calendar days of the closing date of this announcement.
This position is located in Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection (DCP), Policy & Community Analytics Unit and is responsible for leading the government’s efforts in advancing consumer financial protection and economic inclusion policies with broad national and societal impact.
