GS-09: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) Working knowledge of one or more environmental compliance programs or related fields, including but not limited to: National Environmental Policy Act/environmental planning; Air Quality; Water Quality; Hazardous Waste; Pollution Prevention; Solid Waste Management/Recycling; and spill response; 2) Reviewing and analyzing environmental data; 3) Evaluating compliance with environmental protection laws and regulations; and 4) Making recommendations to resolve non-compliance issues. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) Basic knowledge of laws, regulations, policies and procedures related to environmental compliance; 2) Following guidelines to assist in completion of day to day compliance inspections; 3) Gathering data to collect and review information on environmental activities; and 4) Recognizing potential or existing environmental non-compliance issues, hazards or violations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work involves intermittent and prolonged periods of sitting, lifting, standing, bending, kneeling, and stooping; intermittent and prolonged periods working at a rapid pace and walking over varying terrain and in congested industrial work areas. Fieldwork entails entry to industrial facilities and shipboard visits, which entail climbing ladders/stairs, work in congested areas. Work may require the wearing of protective equipment when in the field. To ensure safety in operational areas, personnel must respond rapidly to verbal or visual instructions. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in an office setting as well as in the field. Work may require the wearing of personnel protective equipment when in the field. There is a potential of exposure to hazardous wastes and hazardous materials with varying characteristics of toxicity from minor irritants to strong carcinogens, explosiveness, heat generation, etc. On occasion, such as initial inspection of chemical spills, exposure can occur to high temperature, noise, high solvent concentrations, and extreme conditions of acidity.
