To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Individual Occupation Requirements: Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements, applicant must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing professional dentistry work for GS-12 level. Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position. Some dentists specialize in an area, such as, but not limited to, the following: Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Pediatric Dentistry Periodontics Prosthodontics Endodontics Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Dental Public Health For the above specialty areas, experience, education, board certification, and/or training must clearly establish the applicant’s status as a specialist. Medical Requirements: Must be able to distinguish shades of color. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-12: Two (2) year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science OR 2 full years of professional dentistry experience and/or training. This experience is equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Coordinate the day-to day clinical functions of a Dental Clinic; Manage work schedules of subordinate staff; Participate and advise in personnel matters relating to the dental staff including: staffing plan, recruiting andhiring; Arrange regular staff meetings; Assists Dental Providers in developing and maintaining Quality Assurance program; Meet regularly with the Dental Providers to present clinic staff ideas and concerns; Manage and purchase dental supplies and maintains dental budget; Orientate new staff members on Infection Control procedures, fire exit procedures, dental health record procedures, reappointment procedures, location of fire extinguishers, etc.; Provide support staff training. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
