The vacancy for this position is OPEN UNTIL FILLED and may be extended or closed prior to the current closing date. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Technical and Medical Support Positions, and Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-0455: Range Technician Series). GS-4: 6 months of general experience and 6 months of specialized experience OR 2 years of successfully completed education above the high school level that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of course such as forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources (except marine fisheries and oceanography), outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science. No more than 3 semester hours in mathematics is credit-able. GS-5: 1 year of full-time specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-4 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector) which involve monitoring range use conducting distribution and utilization studies, develop and maintain range improvements and investigates reports of trespass; assist in determining land status and pursues needed clearances for ownership approval and environmental analysis; OR 4 years of successfully completed education above the high school level leading to a bachelor’s degree (a) with major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown below for GS-4. No more than 6 semester hours in mathematics is creditable. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: (1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant’s ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience which has provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully function in the position. Possession of the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities can be evidenced by: · Work in the conservation, regulation, and use of public or Federally controlled lands for grazing. · Range research activities. · Work in the operation of a livestock ranch or in assisting in the management or preservation of lands comparable to the public range. · Range or forest fire control, prevention, or suppression work. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472). This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Superintendent, Blackfeet Agency in Browning, Montana. Perform technical rangeland management work in support of natural resource management programs in rangeland environments.
