Skill and Knowledge: Must have basic knowledge of food preparation principles. Must know how to schedule and coordinate food preparation to produce a properly cooked meal on time. Must have a basic knowledge of a variety of ingredients used in baked goods, eg. hard or soft flour, leavening agents, soda, butter or shortening, etc. Must be able to adjust ingredients in standard recipes when altering the number of servings required. Must be able to follow standardized recipes and cooking techniques. Must know or be able to quickly learn how to operate and clean kitchen machinery. Must have a current Food Sanitation Training Certificate and Health Card. Experience: Experience cooking for large groups is preferred PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Frequently lifts or moves utensils or containers weighing twenty pounds and occasionally up to fifty pounds. Work is performed while standing or walking WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to extreme temperatures due to steam and heat from cooking and cold from walk-in refrigerator/freezer. Working areas are often uncomfortable, warm and noisy. Exposure to minor cuts, bruises, burns and scalds. Danger of slipping on floors which are wet, or where food or beverages have been dropped. Injuries may result from use of powered equipment. Will be required to assist in food deliveries and heavy lifting of cased food (up to 50 lbs) into different climate controlled environments.
