About the Position: The Joint Munitions Command provides the Joint Force with ready, reliable, lethal munitions at the speed of war. JMC’s mission is to support the production, storage, distribution, and demilitarization of munitions. This position serves as a Security Guard, GS-0085-04/05/06, located at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, which is a subordinate installation of JMC. This position functions as the first layer of defense in a security-in-depth concept to deter, detect, delay, assess, respond, and document unauthorized access to Army installations restricted to the general public. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. In order to qualify for the GS-04 position: Specialized Experience: Six months of general experience which includes experience following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contacts with co-workers, supervisors, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information; AND six months of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-03 grade level in the federal service which includes protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-03). (Note: Successful completion of training in an accredited technical school that covered subjects such as physical security procedures, local laws, or investigative techniques is considered qualifying for specialized experience on a month-for-month basis.) OR Education: Two years of education above the high school level in an accredited college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages. In order to qualify for the GS-05 position: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service which includes experience controlling access to a facility; and/or search various types of vehicles; and/or verify identification; and/or perform traffic control duties; and/or operate radios to pass and receive information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). In order to qualify for the GS-06 position: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service which includes federal, state, municipal, local or private protective organization performing installation access control, using physical access control equipment, safeguarding personnel, information, and critical assets, recording visitor information, and/or determining whether appropriate authorization for access exists. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone — substitution of education for experience is permitted for the GS-04 position only.
