In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA’s unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify at the GS-14 level, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Providing oversight in the development and revision of astronaut-related sensorimotor and neurovestibular efforts, including requirements and operations testing; Assessing flight and ground experimental data in terms of its validity and significance to the risk characterization and mitigation; Coordinating with customers for milestones, deliverables, products, and service deadlines/due dates to align customer and/or stakeholder vision and goals. To qualify at the GS-15 level, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Overseeing and evaluating techniques, tools, and laboratory apparatus development necessary for investigations, including human and animal experimental models, data processing techniques, and mathematical and Machine-Learned modeling procedures; Overseeing the interpretation of flight and ground experimental data, as well as medical and operational data, in terms of their validity and significance to the risk characterization and mitigation; Serving as Principal Investigator (PI) or Chief Investigator (CI) for multiple flight and ground analog research studies, intramural and extramural investigators and/or contractor operations staff to develop integrated science protocols. As the AST Biological Studies Technical Manager/Senior Scientist of the Neuroscience Laboratory (NSL) you will be responsible for policies, procedures, operations schedules, resources, procurement, funding, and facility requirements for NSL. You will lead a team of highly skilled scientists, applied physiologists, engineers, and functional managers within NSL and pursue NASA internal and external funding and collaborations for astronauts neurovestibular and sensorimotor efforts.
