The screen-out element for this position is: Ability To Provide Production Support Services which is defined as experience and skill to successfully perform a Lineman (Training Coordinator), BB-2810- 00, is the ability to provide production support services, coordinate apprentice onboarding and orientation, plan and coordinate classroom and on the job training for apprentices, mentor, guide and tutor apprentices. Failure to meet this element results in an ineligible rating. Ability To Provide Production Support Services Ability To Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) Knowledge of Electrical Equipment Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices Trouble shooting (electrical) “Experience” refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. NOTE: DRIVING. Applicants must possess at appointment, and maintain thereafter, a valid U.S. State issued Motor Vehicle Operator License (Driver’s License) in order to drive and operate U.S. government owned and leased vehicles and equipment. Traffic citations indicating poor driving habits may disqualify applicants. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to climb poles (average 65 feet, maximum 110 feet) and towers (average 100 feet, maximum: 535 feet), in all weather conditions; may average 4-6 climbs per day (more when inspecting lines and during apprenticeship program). Requires good balance to climb and perform repair duties. Extends arms in frequent overhead and frontal reaching to perform repairs, pull wires, and handle equipment/tools (utilizing poles up to 20 feet or more in length). Lifts tools and equipment. Average is 30-50 pounds. May occasionally lift in excess of 100 lbs., assistance generally available. Works frequently in awkward positions on equipment, towers, and poles. Able to communicate with co-workers and to provide clear, accurate communication. To receive directions from co-workers, listen for telephone. Ability to hear warning devices and abnormal noises. To safely operate equipment and use tools while performing repairs. WORKING CONDITIONS: The Lineman (Training Coordinator) works indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions; and may work for occasional periods in cold, wet, or icy weather, and high winds. Work is occasionally performed on steel or wood structures at considerable heights, and on or near energized conductors or equipment. The incumbent occasionally works in awkward positions, supported only by a safety harness and accessories. In other instances, the incumbent may work on precipitous slopes, and rugged or brushy terrain. When repairing conductors, the incumbent may ride in a trolley on the conductor, high above the ground. The Lineman (Training Coordinator) may climb to considerable heights many times a day. The incumbent may walk long distances over rugged terrain and work in locations inaccessible to mobile equipment. The Lineman (Training Coordinator) occasionally uses hand tools, such as axes and hot sticks, or power tools such as chain saws, for extended periods of time. The work environment will occasionally include high noise levels and/or exposure to hazardous substances (i.e., solvents, PCB’s, chemicals, etc.) that could, if precautions are not followed, pose a health risk. Approved respiratory and safety equipment shall be worn when hazardous substances are being handled. Emergencies, critical system conditions, or outage limitations may require that work be done at night and/or undertime restraints. System priorities may require extended periods of overtime including working weekends. This position is located with Bonneville Power Administration, in the Transmission organization Technical Training Center (TTC). A successful candidate in the Lineman (Training Coordinator) position will serve as an apprenticeship training program coordinator in support of the lineman electrical trade and reports to Technical Training Supervisor for Apprenticeship Programs.
