To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications are based on the student’s number of completed semester/quarter hours in an ABET accredited Engineering Program. The ratings listed below are grade levels assigned based on the number of credit hours completed. GS-3: Completion of 1 full academic year(30 semester hours/45 quarter hours) of post-high school study. GS-4: Completion of 2 full academic years(60 semester hours/90 quarter hours) of post-high school study or an associate’s degree. GS-5: Completion of 4 academic years(120 semester hours/180 quarter hours) of post-high school leading to a bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program. Eligibility: Current students in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate. A minimum GPA above the 2.0 is required. Program Administration: The Internship Program is primarily administered by each hiring agency. Agencies may hire Interns on a temporary basis for up to one year for an initial period, or for an indefinite period, to complete the educational requirement. Interns may work either part-time or full-time. Each agency must sign a Participant Agreement with the Intern that sets forth the expectations for the internship. Intern’s job will be related to the Intern’s academic career goals or field of study. Explanation of Terms: An academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in an accredited college or university. Program Completion and Conversion: Interns may be converted to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-4 years) within 120 days of successful completion of the program. To be eligible for conversion, Interns must: Complete at least 480 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program Complete their degree or certificate requirements Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant’s Agreement, and Perform their job successfully. Promotion Requirements: Student trainees may be promoted to higher-graded trainee positions based on completion of portions of the education and student trainee work experience. To GS-04: (a) Completion of 1 academic year of study and two periods of student trainee work experience; or (b) completion of 1½ academic years of study and one period of student trainee work experience. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
