To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. NOTE: Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans’ preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. Investigation of Fitness: A character investigation may be conducted on applicants selected for employment. The purpose of such an investigation is to secure evidence of the candidate’s honesty, integrity, general character, and loyalty to the U.S. Government. Such investigations will be conducted under the security requirements of the hiring agency. Medical Requirements: The duties of these positions require moderate to arduous physical exertion and/or duties of a hazardous nature. The following medical requirements apply to all applicants: good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice. Agencies may establish additional, job-related physical or medical requirements provided that the specific position(s) involves the arduous or hazardous duties to which the requirements relate. Applicants and employees must have the capacity to perform the essential functions of the position without risk to themselves or others. In most instances, a specific medical condition or impairment will not automatically disqualify an applicant or employee. All positions involving Federal motor vehicle operation carry the additional medical requirements specified in 5 CFR 930 In addition to meeting the requirements above, applicants must also meet the Minimum Qualifications listed below for the GS-05 grade level – MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0085-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life; locking doors and gates of entrances and exits to secure federal buildings; answering alarms and investigating disturbances; monitoring and authorizing entrance and departure of employees, visitors, patients and other persons; patrolling premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion; circulating among visitors, patients, or employees to preserve order; responding to medical emergencies, bomb threats, fire alarms, or intrusion alarms, following emergency response procedures; training subordinate security officers in rules and procedures; communicating security status, updates, and actual or potential problems; and providing leadership to subordinate security officers; Assist and support the security department to provide formal and informal crime presentation training in educating staff and visitors to include vandalism, robbery, vehicle theft, break-ins, and targeting of vehicles. Control personnel access by monitoring the identification of individuals entering controlled areas. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0085-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Conduct patrols of offices and buildings, leased buildings, parking lots; Check locks, alarms, fences, gates, or other perimeter barriers. Patrol installation perimeters to detect faulty fences and detection equipment, trespassing violations and provide or ensure that reportable incidents are documented, addressed, reported and logged.; Relays messages, maintains logs, and dispatches personnel and equipment to meet emergency situations. Responds to rapid response and emergency codes to assist and control the scene; Write reports and maintains a registration and database of employee parking decals. Investigates security related events, recording all relevant data in the a tracking system, and closing the reports in a timely manner; provides corrective action plans and recommends changes to policies, procedures, and methods. Provide security work process updates to the security supervisor; resolve informal complaints and refer formal complaints to the supervisor; Provide administrative security related support for security operations under direction of a supervisor. Note: Training Experience Credit: Successful completion of training in an accredited technical school that covered subjects such as physical security procedures, local laws, or investigative techniques is considered qualifying for specialized experience at the GS-4 level on a month-for-month basis Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
The Security Guard position is located in the Security Department at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. This position performs protective services work in guarding Federally owned or leased buildings and property, protecting Government equipment and material and controlling access to the facilities. Protects grounds and buildings to detect and prevent fire, property damage, and accidents, and reports to the Security Supervisor on-site.
