In addition to the basic entry education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below: To qualify for the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level defined as providing professional scientific/engineering technical, regulatory, and programmatic advice, oversight and assistance to state/local/tribal governments on matters relating to air quality. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of of scientific principles and methods applicable to varied and complex environmental problems, projects, or studies. Ability to modify standard practices, adapt precedents, and make significant departures from existing approaches and techniques. Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, documentation and reporting requirements, and lawmaking or rulemaking processes. Ability to make decisions or recommendations significantly changing, interpreting, or expanding important agency/national policies and programs. Knowledge of applicable environmental statutes, regulations and program requirements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. This position is in Region 5, Air and Radiation Division, Air Programs Branch, State and Tribal Planning Section.
