In order to qualify for a Health Physicist, GS-1306-07/09 position, you must meet the following Basic Education Requirements: Have a Bachelor’s or higher degree in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus. OR Have a combination of directly related education and experience – courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described above. In addition to the Basic Education Requirement above, in order to qualify for a Health Physicist position at the GS-1306-07 level you must meet one of the following: Have completed one full year of graduate level education in a related field. OR Have superior academic achievement based on a) graduating within the upper third of the graduating class in a college, university, or major subdivision such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; b) having a grade point average of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; c) being elected for membership in a national scholastic honor society. OR Have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: 1) assisting in performing a variety of basic health physics tasks such as interpolating missing data, uncovering clear discrepancies and solving minor problems in support of a project; 2) using computer databases to maintain records and process data; and 3) reviewing records to identify missing data and discrepancies. OR Have a combination of post baccalaureate education in a related field, and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the Basic Education Requirement above, in order to qualify for a Health Physicist position at the GS-1306-09 level you must meet one of the following: Have completed 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or master’s equivalent graduate degree in a related field. OR Have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: 1) performing scientific analyses in support of a health physics assignment; 2) preparing computer programs for processing data based on established programs and techniques; and 3) reviewing records to identify missing data and discrepancies. OR Have a combination of post baccalaureate education in a related field, and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
