In addition to the mandatory education requirement, all applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. To qualify for GS-14, applicants must possess 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level. Specialized experience to qualify for GS-14 is defined as: GS-14: Plans various assignments or investigations to identify opportunities for improvement of the program/activity; Develops methods to isolate and/or identify conditions affecting mission capability, susceptibility to fraud, and/or the potential to increase efficiency; Assesses the potential to reduce cost in a variety of programs, projects, and/or functions to recommend cost effective solutions that address issues; Prepares and provides briefings to key stakeholders based on the results of work performed. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
