To qualify for this position, applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements and specialized experience within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 11/08/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05, applicants may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment. For this position, applicants must have held at least a GS-03 level position. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of the substantive programs of the organization as they relate to the clerical and administrative functions of the office to fully coordinate the work of the office. Preparing and routing correspondence, suspense documents, and reports. Reviewing reports and materials for accuracy and resolving any errors. Maintaining calendars and scheduling meetings/appointments. Timekeeping duties. Maintains and disposes of files in accordance with governing or regulatory procedures. Note: Experience must be fully demonstrated and documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month & year starting and ending dates and hours worked per week. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4 years above high school graduation. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. (Transcripts Required). OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience (Transcripts Required). Proficiency Requirement: In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants must be able to type 40 words per minute. Applicants may meet this requirement by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Preferred experience: Experience with histology send outs, accessioning, and general knowledge of Anatomic Pathology. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work demands periods of walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items, reading, writing, telephone use, long periods of time at a computer terminal, and manual dexterity. This position is located in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service, Boise VA Medical Center, Boise, ID. This position provides support to Pathology and Laboratory Service. The employee serves as the office manager and administrative assistant to the laboratory director/Chief and the laboratory manager at the Boise VA Medical Center, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service (PALMS).
