For GS-4: You must possess six (6) months of general experience, and six (6) months of specialized experience at or equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-3 level. General experience is any type of work that demonstrates the applicant’s ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area. Specialized experience is as indicated by the following examples: helping develop new transportation maps from ortho photos and notes; working from rough drawings, sketches, GIS data files, and verbal instructions to help prepare intricate, small-scale location exhibits and finished maps and plats. -OR- Education: Successful completion of two years of education above high school which includes at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as: cartography, relevant mathematical and statistical sciences, or related sciences, e.g., physical geography or geodesy. Not more than 6 of the 12 semester hours should have been in mathematics or statistics. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. For GS-5: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-4 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: developing new transportation maps from ortho photos and notes; working from rough drawings, sketches, GIS data files, and verbal instructions to prepare intricate, small-scale location exhibits and finished maps and plats. -OR- Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a Bachelor’s degree that included at least 18 semester hours in courses such as cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, remote sensing, algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. Not more than 9 of the 18 semester hours should have been in mathematics or statistics. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
