In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA’s unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level: Supporting aeronautics spacecraft, either before or after launch; Conducting spacecraft operations or helping develop software used in spacecraft operations; and Adhering to quality processes, such as Configuration Management, in support of NASA missions. To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Acting as a lead for one of the following spacecraft domains: software development and testing, systems engineering, quality assurance, or operations (e.g., Flight Operations Lead, Operations Manager, Deputy Operations Manager, Flight Operations Team Manager, Flight Systems Manager, Operations Subsystem Lead, etc.); Assessing products related to spacecraft operations and/or software (e.g., operating procedures, requirements, test plans, test results, etc.); and Identifying improvements to spacecraft operations processes or to operations software development processes. As an AST, Mission Operations & Software Assurance Engineer (MOA/SAE) in the Mission Software & Ground Systems Assurance Branch, you will assure missions operated/managed by GSFC. As an MOA Engineer, you will evaluate spacecraft operations, assure quality processes are done, & provide guidance during anomalies. As an SAE, you will assess a projects software engineering processes & provide reviews of software products. Depending on qualifications, the position may focus on MOA or SAE.
