Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Machinist without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common Machinist duties which include: working from blueprints, sketches, work orders, and models of parts to be made; determining which machine tool would best be used for each operation to be performed; and making job setups on different types of equipment involving accurate alignment in order to maintain specified tolerances. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. – Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Use Hand Tools for Machine Shop Ability To Use Shop Drawings Knowledge of Metals Measurement and Layout Operation of Machine Tools Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Physical Efforts: Required to stand, stoop, bend and reach, and frequently handles objects weighing 10 pounds and occasionally objects up to 40 pounds. Hoist, hand trucks, lifts and other workers are available to assist with heavier items. Working Conditions: Works in a well-lighted, heated, ventilated shop with concrete floors. Exposed to dust from grinding,oil from machines, dirt, heat, noises, and fumes. Subject to the hazards of burns from hot metalchips, dust in the lungs, cuts bruises, injuries to hands from use of machine and hand tools, skinirritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds, and to strains frominfrequent moving. Wears safety glasses, safety shoes and other safety apparel and equipment.
