To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. GS-05 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA’s) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Performing various administrative duties, such as filing, routing calls/customers, greeting customers, etc.; Utilizing various software systems to produce reports, correspondence, research electronic documents, and communicate via email; Sorting, entering, and filing purchase order requests; Maintaining time and attendance records/reports. OR Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-05 level. Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Physical demand is normal for the type of work described. Most of the work is in an office setting where only light physical exertion is required. Required work may also include but is not limited to: standing and walking for long periods of time; being able to perform moderate physical effort over a period, including lifting, bending, crouching, kneeling, etc.; climbing on ladders while carrying and lifting tools and/or materials, or assisting staff in completing other tasks as required. You will be asked to participate in a pre-employment examination or evaluation as part of the pre-employment process for this position. Questions about physical demands or environmental factors may be addressed at the time of evaluation or examination. Work Environment: Work is performed in an office environment with adequate lighting, comfort levels and equipment. Some travel is required between buildings and between divisions of the Health Care System in performance of duties, and some exposure to weather elements may be experienced. Work is performed under considerable pressure at times when demands to perform such duties as answer phones, receive complaints, initiate notification phone calls, issue station clearances (contractor identification badges) occur simultaneously. All while handling the emergency telephone in Engineering Service.
The incumbent is located within the Engineering Service, VA Health Care System (Fargo VA HCS), Fargo, ND. Incumbent receives and directs service requests and work orders for Engineering, Biomed, Supply Chain Management and Environmental Management Services.
