Firefighter (Basic Life Support/Hazardous Materials Technician)

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experince requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS 06 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes: controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; participating in rescue operations; operating fire suppression equipment; AND controlling hazardous materials incidents. GS 07 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes controlling and extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; Performing rescue operations for an organization; controlling hazardous materials incidents as directed and providing training in fire protection and prevention. Selective Placement Factor for the GS- 06, and 07 positions: Incumbent must be certified, at the time of employment, within the Department of Defense (DOD) Firefighter Certification System, Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (FSPQS)/ProBoard, or International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC). (Note: Must include copies of certifications with your application to receive further consideration). Selective Placement Factor for the GS-06 position: Must have the following certifications: DoD Firefighter Certification levels: Fire Fighter I, Firefighter II, HAZMAT Operations. Selective Placement Factor for the GS-07 position: Must have the following certifications: Firefighter I; Firefighter II; HAZMAT Technician Airport; Airport Firefighter Medical Technician – Basic.
