In addition to the basic entry education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below: To qualify for the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level defined as preparing permits for facilities (issuance, re-issuance, and/or modification), where state, local or tribal agencies have not been delegated permit authority; reviewing permits proposed by state, local, or tribal agencies; and resolving issues related to permit requirements. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Ability to prepare permits for facilities and/or review air permits proposed by other permitting agencies. Knowledge of environmental permit regulations and policies. Skill in identifying and/or resolving pollutant discharge problems. Skill in written communication. Knowledge of environmental permit regulations and policies. Skill in oral communication. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. This position is in Region 5, Water Division, Permits Branch, NPDES 1.
