In addition to the basic entry education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below: To qualify for the GS-14 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level defined as analyzing scientific information related to unregulated drinking water contaminants; providing advice and/or recommendations to a variety of internal and external stakeholders regarding issues of science, policy, and/or regulations related to unregulated drinking water contaminants. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). Knowledge of outreach and communication approaches, strategies, and concepts. Ability to develop, revise, and/or implement traditional and innovative concepts for identifying potential contaminants for regulation. Ability to identify priority contaminants and/or determine whether a drinking water contaminant presents a meaningful opportunity to reduce public health risk. Ability to represent the Agency on unregulated contaminants of concern in drinking water with a variety of external audiences. Knowledge of the design and feasibility of technical and policy solutions to environmental problems. Skill in oral communication. Skill in written communication. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
