Lead Medical Instrument Technician (Ultrasound)

Medical Instrument Technicians must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with chapter 2, section D, paragraph 5a, this part. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: GS-10. In addition to the core competencies defined at the GS-9 level, positions at this grade may be supervisory or non-supervisory with specialized advanced knowledge and assignments. (a) Experience. At least 1 year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level, which is directly related to the duties of the position to be filled, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): (b) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. 1*. Advanced knowledge of complex and non-standard treatment and examination procedures and techniques. 2*. Ability to plan and assist in the establishment of a completely integrated treatment and examination program. 3*. Ability to evaluate new products and equipment and make recommendations concerning developments which would improve operations. (c) Certification. Registration by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) is highly desirable. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are also desirable. Preferred Experience: 5+ years of progressive Diagnostic Ultrasound experience with demonstrated ability to serve as a resource to others. Experience performing advanced Ultrasound procedures independently. Prior experience in a Lead role. Physical Requirements: The physical demands of the work includes: Heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over; moderate carrying, 15-44 pounds; pushing up to 4 hours; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers, good dexterity (both hands required); prolonged walking, prolonged standing; repeated bending; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted); speed in working; and emotional stability. Must have the ability to stand and work while wearing a lead apron for possibly long periods of time.
The Therapeutic and Diagnostic Imaging service at the Dayton VA Medical Center is looking for a Lead Medical Instrument Technician (Ultrasound). The Lead Medical Instrument Technician (Ultrasound) works directly with patients and Physicians and operates equipment that uses high frequency soundwaves to take images and scans of the bodys internal organs. They monitor and create work assignments, provide input on performance, resolve daily workplace issues, and maintain efficient workflow.
