This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: * Utilizing complex multi-point suspension techniques to maneuver over, under, and around obstacles by tilting, dipping, and turning the suspended load. * Recognizing, and eliminating or controlling safety hazards arising during item movements. * Operating various types of cranes supporting heavy lifting operations for long periods of time. * Making proper gear selection, attaching weight-handling gear to support the movements of items by crane or other mobile material handling equipment. * Providing hand or radio communications to crane operators for the safe and effective movement of items to and from submarines, shops and other areas to include positioning of items in exacting locations onboard ships. * Providing assistance to the crane operator in performing the pre-use check of the crane, safe rigging of the load, and providing hand or radio communications to crane operators for the safe and effective movement of items to and from ships, shops and other areas. You will serve as a CRANE OPERATOR in the RIGGING AND OPERATIONS DIVISION, LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
