Current Department of Army Civilian Employees In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: implementing or providing training in fire protection and prevention for an organization; participating in overseeing training drills and exercises concerning firefighting rescue functions; providing technical advisory services to management on all matters pertaining to fire protection and prevention and assisting in executing inspection and training duties to ensure the organization meets the training requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain all of the following Department of Defense, or IFSAC, Pro-Board, certifications: FIREFIGHTER I, FIREFIGHTER II, DRIVER PUMPER OPERATOR, DRIVER AERIAL OPERATOR, DRIVER ARFF OPERATOR, FIRE OFFICER II, FIRE INSPECTOR I, FIRE INSTRUCTOR II, AND HAZMAT INCIDENT COMMANDER. (YOU MUST INCLUDE COPIES OF ALL CERTIFICATIONS WITH YOUR APPLICATION PACKAGE FOR VERIFICATION PURPOSES.) MAXIMUM ENTRY AGE: Employees hired for the first time (“originally hired”) into GS-0081 positions must not exceed the established Maximum Entry Age (MEA) at the time of appointment. The MEA for Firefighters (FFs) is 37. An employee originally hired into a covered FF position must be hired by the last day of the month he/she reaches 37 unless a waiver from Department of Army is approved prior to appointment. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Fire Suppression Fire/Life Safety Training, Public Education, and Outreach Teaching Others Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).
