NOTE: You must meet qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement. To qualify for the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level defined as providing technical advice in the area of sustainability and environmental compliance; conducting facility assessments for applicability and compliance with relevant federal, state, and local sustainability/environmental compliance laws and regulations; and presenting information about facility management functions to internal and external stakeholders. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of the policies, organization, operations, work practices, and environmental parameters of regulated industries, agricultural or commercial establishments, Federal agencies, States, or other entities sufficient to obtain information, evaluate compliance, and make recommendations Skill in problem solving Ability to apply program principles and procedures across a wide range of environmental programs to solve complex problems and promote environmental compliance, stewardship, and sustainability Knowledge of one or more environmental sciences or related fields (e.g., biology, ecology, chemistry, hydrology, radiation physics, environmental law, real property functions, or statistics) sufficient to assess and correlate environmental data, verify results, and discuss technical aspects of work with scientists, engineers, and other environmental experts Knowledge of statutes, regulations, licensing/permitting requirements, and precedent decisions governing environmental operations sufficient to use in planning, implementing, or monitoring environmental programs and services Knowledge of reference standards, regulatory requirements, and pertinent statutes sufficient to assure environmental compliance and provide technical assistance to operating personnel and managers Knowledge of management practices and procedures to resolve problems of major significance to agency environmental programs Skill in oral communication Skill in written communication Ability to provide technical direction, track and oversee the preparation and review of work assignments, and monitor contractor activity and performance Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
