SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The largest portion of the Operation Supervisors time is spent in the office, but frequent inspections require being out in the inclement weather, checking work in confined spaces and high areas. The Operations Supervisor must be physically able to stand, stoop, turn, crouch, and balance in difficult positions, and carry up to 40 pounds. Incumbent must have the physical ability to supervise the operations of machinery and repairs on the equipment. They must possess the mental and emotional stability to perform the job. The Operations Supervisor must be able to physically climb ladders where the portion of the system being worked on are in hard to reach areas. An annual employee physical is required. Working Conditions: Incumbent maintains a good working environment to encourage subordinates to participate in management goals, and to promote efficient and economical work operations. Organizes, coordinates, and directs work activities of personnel of units within the Operations Section. Assigns, explains, and provides training for work requirements to subordinate supervisors. The work environment involves everyday risks, or discomfort that requires normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, training rooms, and libraries. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. There may be occasional exposure to moderate risk of discomforts in storage areas or hazardous waste sites.
The Utilities Operations Supervisor of the Operation Section of Engineering at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center. The Medical Center consist of 40.67 acres, containing a Main Hospital, a Bed Tower. Fisher House and Community Living Center. The function of this position is to assure the efficient and economical operations and maintenance of the Chiller Plant and Boiler Plant and distributed utility systems through good management and resourcefulness.
