Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Materials Handler Supervisor without more than normal supervision to include 1) Supervising workers directly or through subordinate leaders in accomplishing the work of an organizational segment or group; 2) Establishing deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, and planning work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher level supervisors; and 3) Investigating work related problems and determining causes. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (other than blueprints) Ability to lead or supervise Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) Physical Effort: Employees are often required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop, and work, in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. They may lift and carry items that weigh up to 40 pounds. The heavier items are moved with material handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside or outside, in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Material handlers are regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injuries from falling stock. They may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease and solvents, and to high noise levels in mechanized work areas. When working in hazardous materials areas, they may be subject to exposure from radiation toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes. Work requires the wearing of protective clothing such as hardhats, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, etc.
