Geologist

In addition to the basic entry education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below: To qualify for the GS-11 level, you must have one of the following: 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level defined as geological field or laboratory experience, professional knowledge of the theory and application of the principles of geology and closely related sciences, e.g., geophysics, geochemistry, or hydrology; Geologic experience that includes assisting in field observations, sampling, or utilizing instruments/equipment; experience analyzing, compiling, and summarizing field reports and assessments of geologic data from source materials. -OR- 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree; or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; the education must be directly related and provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position equivalent combination of education and experience To qualify for the GS-12 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level defined as geological field or laboratory experience, professional knowledge of the theory and application of the principles of geology and closely related sciences, e.g., geophysics, geochemistry, or hydrology; Geologic experience that includes making field observations, sampling, or utilizing instruments/equipment; experience analyzing, compiling, summarizing, and communicating field reports and assessments of geologic data from source materials. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Ability to plan projects or studies associated with implementation of the national programs (e.g., Drinking water program or wastewater program) Ability to execute projects or studies associated with implementation of the national program (e.g., Drinking water program or wastewater program) Skill in evaluating pertinent scientific studies, technical and programmatic documents from domestic and international governments, scientific organizations and academia related to implementation of water programs Skill in making recommendations based on engineering, scientific , geologic or technical evidence. Knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices of the general geologic sciences. Knowledge of contracts and grants sufficient to serve as a work assignment manager or project officer. Knowledge to develop and adapt scientific standards and specifications as well as technical handbooks for guidance to scientific specialists involved in drinking water, or wastewater or storm water programs and to furnish advice on the use and interpretation of technical guidance. Knowledge of the roles, policies, and practices of assistance recipients, state, and Federal drinking water programs.
