Skills and Knowledge: Ability to operate, control, and clean heavy power equipment and to work safely with heavy tools. Ability to provide continual care and attention both to avoid accidents and to finish the work properly. Skill in performing routine operator maintenance and adjusting the cutting g height of blades on power mowers. Prior job experience or on-the-job training is normally required to gain this ability. Ability to complete assignments involving several tasks or processes which require remembering directions, sequences, etc. Responsibility: For most assignments, the supervisor does not give detailed instructions or provide continual supervision except during special assignments with specified timeframes for accomplishment. The incumbent is responsible for completing work after getting initial oral or written instructions. Ability to use appropriate equipment or safety devices when lifting and moving very heavy objects. Continual care is required due to the nature of the work, the type of equipment used. Supervisor checks work on a random basis for timeliness, work practices, and compliance with instructions. Physical Effort: Exerts very heavy physical effort in doing such tasks as frequently lifting and moving objects, running power mowers on grades or pushing heavy loads of dirt, etc. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance. Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside. Subject to drafts, noise, and varying temperatures. Exposed to weather and temperature extremes outside, as well as high noise levels, vibrations, and jolts from tractor and towed equipment. Exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and fumes. Must follow safety practices and wear issued safety equipment.
