All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-11/29/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). Basic Requirements for Geology Series 1350: DEGREE: Geology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural, chemical, civil, mining or petroleum engineering, computer science, planetary geology, comparative planetology, geophysics, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, physical geography, marine geology, and cartography. ***You must include transcripts*** -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Course work as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. ***You must include your resume with hours worked per week, as well as transcripts.***In addition to the basic requirements listed above, one full year of specialized experience must be met. – AND – To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Experience at this level must include all of the following: performing geologic research or analysis, geologic hazards data collection research or analysis, use of programing languages for geologic data management, use of GPS (Global Positioning System) and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) for geologic research or data collection, resource management, report writing, presentations, interpretation, education or similar functions regarding local, state, or federal public lands. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or master’s or equivalent graduate degree. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. You must include your resume with hours worked per week annotated, as well as transcripts. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as “varies”. Experience listed as full-time will be credited at 40 hours per week. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
This Position located in Natural Resources Stewardship and Science, in the Natural Resources Stewardship and Science Division. The Incumbent performs a range of professional duties supporting investigations and scientific projects and programs. This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of 10 years. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.
