PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The position is subject to frequent standing, walking, kneeling, crawling, and climbing of ladders and scaffolds for inspections. The Boiler Plant Operator Supervisor works inside in constant high temperatures from the boilers. Exposed to the danger of steam leaks, oil fumes, and fuel gases. Cuts, bruises, burns, and broken bones may result from accidents while working on equipment. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. The Boiler Plant Operator Supervisor supports the delivery of quality health care in a cost-effective manner by having the responsibility of maintaining the 24-hour, 7-day-a-week operation of a high-pressure Boiler Plant consisting of three 740-horsepower boilers, with a total maximum capacity of 153,180 pounds of steam per hour and the auxiliary equipment to produce and control the amount of steam required by the Medical Center.
