MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GRADE 11: High school diploma or GED plus seven (7) years of court reporting experience. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GRADE 12: High school diploma or GED plus eight (8) years of court reporting experience. A Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certification, Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR) certification and/or Certified Realtime Captioner (CRC) certification is preferred. The ability to conduct verbatim reporting at a minimum rate of 225 words per minute is required. Candidates must furnish their own equipment and software to provide real-time reporting to the judiciary and produce their own transcripts. Candidates must also be able to lift materials of up to forty (40) pounds. Documentation of education must be submitted with your application or your application will not be considered. The incumbent should be an enthusiastic and engaged professional who enjoys working with a diverse group of Court personnel and customers and lives the DC Courts’ values of Accountability, Excellence, Fairness, Integrity, Respect, and Transparency. Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts is required. If you are selected for the position, a criminal history records check will be conducted.
The Official Court Reporter is responsible for the verbatim reporting of the judicial and administrative proceedings to which they are assigned, regardless of the nature, difficulty, or location of the proceedings. When requested, the incumbent is further responsible for the accurate preparation and timely submission of the official transcript of the proceedings which constitutes an official record. This position is located in the Court Reporting Division of the D.C. Superior Court.
