Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. This position is being filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). The system replaced the Federal GS pay plan structure. Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band. Non supervisory positions cap out at interval 3 of the band. The ZT-04 is equivalent to the GS-11/12 grade level. Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government. For the ZT-03 (GS-9-10), you must possess one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower grade/level of a ZT-02 or GS-07 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Operating radiofrequency test and measurement equipment as well as antennas/antenna systems Performing maintenance of electronic systems and equipment and Advising engineers on developing new and or adapting existing equipment. To qualify at the ZT-04 (GS-11-12), you must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the ZT-03 or GS-09 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Operating radiofrequency test and measurement equipment as well as antennas/antenna systems Performing maintenance of electronic systems and equipment Advising engineers on developing new and or adapting existing equipment and Designing characteristics, and functional use of a variety of types of electronic equipment and systems. Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. A. Two full years of graduate education or a master’s degree meets the requirements for GS-9. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. OR B.
