Environmental Health Specialist

In addition to the basic entry education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below: To qualify for the GS-15 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level defined as experience leading highly-visible technical projects; providing technical expertise to improve human health risk assessments; and applying high-level, analytical thinking and creativity to resolve scientific issues related to human health risk assessment. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Ability to use advanced expert technical knowledge, to provide technical assistance. Ability to develop new processes and/or approaches. Skill in ensuring scientific quality of information being released. Ability to provide technical advice related to risk assessment. Ability to maintain effective relationships internal/external to the Agency. Ability to present technical and policy information to a variety of audiences. Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary scientists to discuss environmental risk assessment issues. Skill in written communication. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
