GENERAL EXPERIENCE is experience, education or training performing simple mechanical installations and adjustments. Experience which demonstrates the applicant’s ability to recognize obvious malfunctions. A good understanding of basic electronic theories and techniques and familiarity with standard electronic components and their use. Tracing circuitry, diagnosing malfunctions and adjusting controls to achieve peak performance. Experience using specific layout and schematic diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment such as power supplies, oscillators, amplifiers, etc. Using advanced methods in a full-range of troubleshooting procedures, techniques, and usage of test-set related equipment. Experience using common hand tools. Experience that demonstrates the ability to follow written instructions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is experience which is directly related to the position to be filled and which has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. GS-12 – Must have at least 1-year equivalent to at least next lower grade level, GS-11. Experience, education, or training in utilizing principles, basic functions, and application of theory of electronic systems or equipment. Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems. Experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment. Experience in using complex test equipment such as deviation meters, complex special test panels, etc. Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications. Work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions. Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment. Supervises employees performing ATC electronic equipment repair and maintenance work. Assigns, directs and reviews subordinates’ work, solves technical and administrative problems, and explains work and administrative requirements. Develops and implements a training program for subordinate electronics technicians in accordance with Army Regulations (AR) and Training Circulars (TC). Serves as a senior electronics technician responsible for maintaining a highly-complex Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower used for safely guiding both civilian and military aircraft in the vicinity of the airport. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Resume must have complete dates and hours worked per week for each occurrence of both civilian and military employment (Example: 2 JAN 1980 to 3 MAR 1981; 0800-1630 M-F or JAN 1980 to MAR 1981; 40 hrs/wk) Use of year only will result in disqualification. Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Your experience will be evaluated on the basis of duties performed. Your record of experience, training, and education must show possession of the following knowledge, skills and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position: – A comprehensive, intensive and practical knowledge of, and extensive experience and skill in applying a wide range of concepts, practices, regulations, policies, and precedents. Knowledge of analytical and diagnostic techniques. Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative techniques. Knowledge, skill, technical expertise, and understanding of design theory to evaluate the performance of multiple complex air traffic control systems which interface to form a highly complex air traffic control facility. Uses this knowledge and skills to trace problems through a series of interfacing systems to determine which system has malfunctioned; to make complicated alignments and diagnoses that will assure Systems are safe and continually certify same; and to work with the most intricate state-of-the-art integrated circuits and various kinds of logic used by different manufacturers. Completes numerous specialized formal training courses conducted at the FAA Academy or provided by DOD or manufacturer sources to obtain level of competency required and keep abreast of the latest state-of-the-art technology. Skill in the use of highly complex test equipment requiring knowledge of the most advanced testing techniques and knowledge of maintenance, supply, and reporting procedures and documentation.
