Engineering Equipment Operator Supervisor

To qualify, there is no specific length of training or experience required; however, your resume must demonstrate enough experience to show your ability to perform the duties of a Engineering Equipment Operator Supervisor without more than normal supervision. Examples of such experience include: (1) supervising the operation of gasoline or diesel powered equipment such as road graders, bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, or water trucks in all terrain environments; (2) planning daily work of crew and equipment as well as the methods and procedures for maintenance activities; (3) instructing subordinates on safety, special projects, regulations, guidance, and hazardous material handling; (4) leading or training subordinates in the operation of engineering equipment. SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position performs operation of vehicles, and a class Commercial Driver’s License with appropriate special endorsements is required. You must be able to obtain one before entry on duty. Physical Effort: Work is strenuous and physically exerting because of the large equipment operated, the adjustments made, and the adverse operating conditions. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces, when making lateral movements, and changing attachments. The incumbent is required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds and often puts forth similar effort when pushing, pulling, turning and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools. Incumbent is required to manipulate hand and foot controls while changing attachments. Incumbent must maintain a high degree of concentration and depth perception. Work is physically and mentally challenging. Work Environment: Incumbent operates large and complicated gasoline or diesel powered engineering and construction equipment in difficult circumstances increases exposure and risk of injury. The incumbent works both inside and outside and is exposed to hot and humid weather and/or extremely cold weather with temperatures ranging from below 0 to above 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Ice, road oils, and other items such as loose gravel and rocks may create hazardous conditions. The operator is subjected to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, oils, solvents, and fumes from motors and exhausts. When working inside, the incumbent must ensure proper ventilation to minimize fumes caused by equipment or vehicles. The incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, abrasions, bruises and strains while servicing and operating equipment. The incumbent is required to follow all prescribed safety practices and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as protective hearing devices and hard hats to prevent injury. Protective clothing and safety equipment must also be worn while exposed to hazardous conditions.
This position is located in the Albuquerque District Office. This position is only open to Department of Interior (DOI) current permanent employees on a competitive appointment and employees that meet Land Management Authority.
