Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-9 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-8 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: 1) Conducting variable plot sampling for assessing forest resources; 2) serving as a Project Inspector, (e.g., contract monitoring) on construction projects and heavy equipment operations specific to silvicultural forest management; 3) delineating riparian areas, wetlands, and equipment exclusion zones; 4) marking trees for removal ahead of forest management operations; 5) Managing, analyzing, and creating project maps using large data sets with GIS; 6) collecting monitoring data including vegetation plots, transects and photo points; and 7) leading field crews and training lower-graded employees and interns in forest management activities. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 2 full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education or master’s or equivalent graduate degree related to the occupation, such as, forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position, or that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources (except marine fisheries and oceanography), outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science. No more than 6 semester hours in mathematics is creditable. You must include transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take the number of semester hours (or equivalent) earned towards a graduate degree, in excess of 18 semester hours, and divide by 18 semester hours (or equivalent). Then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. For example, an applicant with 6 months of appropriate experience as shown above which is equivalent to GS-7 (50 percent of the experience requirement) and 27 semester hours of appropriate graduate education (50 percent of the education requirement). You must include transcripts and hours per week worked on resume. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
