Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience which inculdes:1) directing the activity of a fire crew 2) responding to emergency incidents such as hazardous material incidents and technical rescue operations; 3) driving and positioning apparatus such as aerial trucks, structural pumpers, water tenders, wild land apparatus, crash rescue vehicles, and ambulances in response to emergency incidents; 4) performing life support functions. In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess: Certifications Required: NWCG/NIMS ICS qualification indicating Firefighter Type II certification; 2) Department of Defense (DOD) Fire Officer II, 3) DOD HazMat Incident Commander, 4) DOD Aircraft Rescue Firefighting, 5) DOD Instructor I, 6) DOD Inspector I and 7) Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), which must be issued by State or National Registry. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Emergency Response Fire Prevention, Inspection, and Code Compliance Hazardous Materials Response Managing Human Resources Search & Rescue Maximum Entry Age (MEA)The MEA for Firefighters is 37. Applicants not appointed by the last day of the month in which that individual reaches their 37th birthday shall not be appointed or assigned to these positions. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).
