Who May Apply: US Citizens This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) experience as a fully trained member of a firefighting crew engaged in the protection of life and property responding to fires 2) experience using firefighting and rescue techniques, equipment and extinguishing agents; 3) experience with contaminated and/or hazardous areas requiring the full performance of firefighting tasks including building ventilation, fire extinguishing, and 4) experience performing emergency medical service(s) (EMS).This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-6). SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS: This position requires you to possess and maintain all of the following Department of Defense, International Fire Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board) equivalent certifications: (Please note: All certifications must be uploaded at time of application): – Firefighter I – Firefighter II – Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Operations level – Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification at the Basic or higher level issued by the State of Virginia or National Registry. (You MUST submit a copy of your certification.) You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Decision Making Emergency Communication Emergency Medical Care Fire Suppression Written Communication
