BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0600/nurse-series-0610/In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Specialized Experience GS-09: Provides professional nursing care principles, practices and procedures required to assess needs of patients; knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use; recognizing adverse signs and symptoms which are not always apparent and to react promptly in emergency situations initiating the implementation of life saving measures; providing counseling, guidance and health instruction to patients; and identifies disease entities in order to recognize complications and therapeutic nursing interventions required. Provide triage using the Emergency Severity Index system. Use specialized equipment such as cardiac monitoring devices, ventilator devices, hypothermic units; Record information on patients’ chart and maintain accurate records of intake and output and administers prescribed medication. Specialized Experience GS-10: Independently perform professional nursing duties in the care of emergency department patients following extensive and complex trauma or other patients whose critical conditions warrant immediate care. Independently performs Triage using Emergency Severity Index system and assesses patient’s clinical condition. Recognizes, identifies, and interprets serious situations and immediately decides proper action implementing standing protocols based upon the physical condition of the patient. Recognize emergency situations when a physician is not present or immediately available, initiates appropriate lifesaving measures, for example, takes resuscitative measure in case of cardiac or respiratory arrest. Use specialized equipment such as cardiac monitoring devices, ventilator devices, hypothermic units; Record information on patients’ chart and maintain accurate records of intake and output and administers prescribed medication. Oversee the Emergency Department as a shift charge nurse, and perform as preceptor providing instruction and mentoring to lower level trainee nurses. Time In Grade (Merit Promotion Candidates Only) Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
The purpose of the Nurse (ER) position is to provide professional emergency room nursing care to patients in a general hospital and ambulatory care setting. There may not be immediate vacancies at all locations. This position requires licensure as a registered nurse and experience as stated in OPM regulations. Incumbent is required to work rotational shifts, night, days, weekends, and holidays. The incumbent reports directly to the ER Nurse Supervisor.
