Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: experience with packing and certification of hazardous material, ensuring hazardous shipments comply with federal, state and local directives regarding packing, marking, labeling, and certification prior to shipment; determining the appropriate containers, protective devices and cushioning; determining the methods and techniques for standard and non-standard packaging and preservation; assembling tri-wall boxes; considering factors such as weight, type, fragility and mode of shipment; preparing and processing standard documentation; understanding special handling labels and shipping codes; packing materials for shipment by air, water or ground transportation; operating forklifts and material handling equipment; using tools and machines common to packing; applying special techniques such as slot hanging, mounting, suspending and bracketing to perform custom packing; using bar code scanners and utilizing computerized systems to prepare and process documentation for special handling items such as classified and hazardous materials Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
