In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study — safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. Safety and Occupational Health Management Series 0018 (opm.gov) SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. General Schedule Qualification Standards (opm.gov) FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-12 or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of safety and occupational health principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations, consensus standards and current legislative issues as they relate to the military installation occupational safety program; the requirements, methods, and techniques of accident and mishap investigation, analysis, resolution of safety problems, and formal reporting procedures; and risk assessment methods and techniques for evaluation of occupational safety and health risks. 2. Knowledge of communication techniques, principles, and regulations to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in responding to work related problems, questions, and diverse occupational safety and health, fire and environmental related scenarios. 3. Knowledge of basic general industry and construction standards, methods, practices, techniques, materials, and equipment to determine compliance with regulations and standards with skill and ability to recommend appropriate corrective actions. 4. Knowledge of standard training techniques, methods, and materials sufficient to develop and present formal training and instructional sessions that meet or exceed requirements. 5. Ability to manage, plan, organize work, and meet deadlines.
