In addition to the basic education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below: To qualify for the GS-13 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-12 level defined as providing customer support in the areas of software, hardware, networks and applications programs; and researching, evaluating, and providing feedback on problematic trends and patterns in information technology (IT) customer support requirements. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Skill in the implementation of new system hardware and software Skill in written communication Knowledge of a wide range of computer troubleshooting techniques, requirements, methods, sources, and procedures to perform a variety of assignments involving IT customer support Skill in developing and maintaining problem tracking and resolution databases Skill in oral communication Knowledge of contract management Knowledge of a wide range of computer troubleshooting techniques, requirements, methods, sources, and procedures to perform a variety of assignments involving IT customer support Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
